白い空気とその命

a i r e b l a n c o

AIRE BLANCO transports us to that instant where the earth breathes in white and beauty becomes silence. The world stops and allows us to contemplate each mountain, tree or branch turned into a sculpture. The snowy white is the absolute protagonist of this story and leads us to reconcile ourselves with a pure, simple and true nature.

The images of “white air” are presented as real fragments decontextualized, fleeing from descriptive precision and wrapped in an aura of unreality to invite us to imagine new worlds where the resurgence of nature can be a reality. Landscapes, trees, footprints on the road... in short, an everyday reality of a remote place, shown through an emotional and poetic interpretation to highlight the beauty of simplicity.

The elements that appear in white air could well be part of a minimalist set being the protagonists the snow, the mist, the storm and the light that envelops the environment.

The images were taken on an island located in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Its volcanic origins are evident, coexisting numerous microclimates, but really the most important thing is that life is debated between the ordinary and the extraordinary, between the real and the represented.

Our European imagination associates the island with a warm place with beautiful beaches surrounded by palm trees, but nothing could be further from the truth in this place known as the North Sea Way. In winter, due to the humid continental climate, the general tendency on the island is to be isolated by snowstorms. It is not easy to coexist with these harsh weather conditions on a daily basis. The inhabitants have adapted to these minimalist landscapes, devoid of superfluous elements.

Legend has it that the first inhabitants of the area, the Ainu were born from the relationship of a white wolf with a goddess, which evidences the closeness of these tribes with nature. This is also demonstrated in their animistic beliefs in which everything is venerated, just as an animal can have a spirit, a tree, a river or a mountain also has one.

In the face of an escape from chaos and daily life based on the destruction of the natural environment, these landscapes transport us to timeless spaces that take us to a remote past or that can also speak to us of their delicate future.
